What are Dermatological agents?

Dermatological agents are substances or practices that act on the skin. They can be used for both preventive and therapeutic purposes.

Topical dermatological agents are applied directly to the skin to treat or prevent skin conditions. They may apply medicine, use an inert cream or ointment, or have various other benefits.

Topical dermatological agents include local anesthetics to cause numbness, cleansing agents to wash off dirt or germs, anti-inflammatory agents for pain relief and reduction of swelling, antibiotic&antiviral agents to fight against infection in our skin.

They can also be used for psoriasis. Topical dermatological preparations such as tretinoin are frequently used to treat this condition.

Types of Dermatological agents

Topical acne agents

Acne is a skin condition in which dead skin cells clog the pores, causing them to become inflamed or infected. Acne can occur on almost any area of skin on the body, including the face and chest.

Topical acne medications are topical drugs that are applied directly to the skin to treat acne. They work by killing the bacteria that cause acne and reducing inflammation. Topical acne agents can be used as a stand-alone treatment, but they often work better when paired with other treatments from your dermatologist’s office.

Some topical acne medications include benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, salicylic acid, and sulphur peels.

Topical anesthetics

Topical anesthetics are viable alternatives to more invasive treatments for minor injuries.

It is important to know that there are two types of topical anesthetic products: those that contain lidocaine and those that contain benzocaine.

Lidocaine is a medication that is usually used as a numbing agent. It is mainly used to relieve pain associated with dental procedures, the medical treatment of headache, and cluster headaches.

Lidocaine can be injected, applied to the skin as a cream or gel, or taken by mouth. It can be applied as a liquid (oral), in which case it is swallowed and then moves through the intestines before being absorbed into the bloodstream.

Benzocaine is a drug that is used as an anaesthetic. It is also used to treat pain caused by teething in infants, and to numb the throat for certain medical procedures such as endoscopies and colonoscopies.

Benzocaine is available in different formats such as ointments, creams, gels, sprays and lozenges. It can be found in combination with other ingredients such as lidocaine or tetracaine.

What are topical anti-infectives

Topical anti-infectives are used to treat localized infections on the skin. They can be applied directly to the affected area or a bandage can be placed on the site of infection. Topical anti-infectives come in a variety of forms, including liquids, powders, ointments, creams and gels. These topical treatments are not absorbed by healthy tissue and therefore do not have systemic side effects.

One of the most common types of topical anti-infective is benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is available in cream, lotion or gel form and it is commonly used for acne treatment because it decreases bacteria growth on the skin surface and reduces inflammation.

What are topical anti-rosacea agents?

Topical anti-rosacea agents are topical preparations used to treat rosacea. These preparations come in a variety of forms such as creams, lotions, ointments, and gels.

Types of topical antibiotics

Antibiotics are medicines that are used to treat bacterial infections. There are two types of topical antibiotics. One is topical antibiotics that are used for external use, and the second is systemic, which means they will be absorbed into the bloodstream.

Topical antibiotics use on the skin or externally on the surface of an organ. They can be used to treat wounds or burns, or skin infections for example acne, eczema and psoriasis.

Systemic antibiotic penetrate inside of our body and can be taken orally or given intravenously (IV). The benefit of this type is that they can quickly kill bacteria in our entire system, not just where they’re applied.

Antibiotics are a critical and essential tool in the fight against bacterial infection, but the over-prescription of antibiotics is becoming a major public health concern.

There is a difference between oral antibiotics, topical antibiotics, IV antibiotics, and intra-vaginal antibiotics. Oral antibiotics are the most common form of treatment for moderate to severe bacterial infections. Topical or IV treatments are often prescribed for more localized infections where oral treatments would not be effective. Intra-vaginal antibiotic treatments are administered directly into the vagina and used to treat pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). All of these different types of medications can play an important role in fighting bacterial infections both in human patients and livestock animals.

Topical antifungals

Topical antifungals are a topical treatment applied to the skin to treat fungal infections

Some of the topical antifungal medications include clotrimazole, ketoconazole, miconazole, and terbinafine. These medications are classified as imidazoles. The new generation of topical antifungals is fluconazole and it can be taken instead of oral treatments for some types of fungal infections.

Topical antihistamines

Antihistamines are drugs used to relieve or prevent the symptoms of an allergic reaction such as hay fever, allergic asthma, and some types of skin conditions.

Antihistamines work by blocking histamine released during an allergic reaction. Histamine is a chemical that your body produces during an allergic reaction and causes inflammation in the nose, airways, and skin. Antihistamines can help reduce these symptoms by blocking histamine from binding to its receptors in the body.

Histamine also acts as a neurotransmitter in your body so antihistamines can also have effects on mental health if taken for a long period of time or if they are taken in high doses.

Topical antineoplastics

There are many different topical antineoplastics that can be used for the treatment of skin cancer, and they may also be used to treat other types of cancer. The type of topical antineoplastic will depend on a number factors, such as how deep the tumor is in the skin and what type it is.

Some topical antineoplastics include:

-Efudix: A medication that is injected directly into a tumor on the outer layer of your skin; its purpose is to slow down or stop cell growth in this area

-Immunotherapy is a treatment strategy which uses the patient’s immune system to fight cancer.

Immunotherapy works by stimulating or restoring the body’s natural defenses to fight against cancer cells. It can be used in conjunction with other treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.

Topical antivirals

Antivirals are drugs that are used to treat viral infections. The use of antivirals is particularly important for people who suffer from chronic diseases, cancer patients, and those who have weakened immune systems.

Antibiotics work by killing bacteria, while antivirals work by preventing viruses from replicating. Antiviral drugs can be taken as a pill or an injection.

The discovery of the first antiviral drug dates back to the late 1940s with the discovery of penciclovir for herpes virus. A few years later in 1952, acyclovir was discovered for use against herpes virus and varicella-zoster virus (causes chicken pox).

Topical debriding agents

Topical debriding agents are cleaning agents that are placed on an open wound to remove dead tissue and bacteria from the wound.

The topical debriding agent is applied onto the wound, and then it is left there for a specified amount of time. After this time has passed, the dead tissue and bacteria that have been loosened by the topical debriding agent are removed with a saline solution or saline wash.

Topical depigmenting agents

Topical depigmenting agents are used to treat hyperpigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation is an increase in the amount of melanin in the skin. This can be caused by many factors such as genetics and sun exposure. One of the most popular treatments for hyperpigmentation is topical depigmenting agents. These topical depigmenting agents work to decrease or remove the excess melanin in order to lighten and brighten the skin.

Topical emollients

Topical emollients are substances that are applied directly to the skin to soften and relieve dryness. They have different textures, which can be liquid or cream, and they are either petrolatum-based or water-based.

The most common topical emollients for the face and body is petrolatum-based because they are occlusive and can significantly reduce transepidermal water loss. However, some patients may not like the greasy feeling of these occlusive dressings, so they may prefer a water-based topical emollient that won’t lead to oiliness.

Topical keratolytics

Topical keratolytics are medicines for skin conditions that are applied to the skin.

Electrostatic therapy is a type of topical keratolytics that involves applying an electric current to the skin. This has been found to relieve pain and itching in some people.

Another treatment called subcision is when a doctor cuts part of a raised scar or keloid on the surface of the skin. Subcision can be done alone or with another procedure called dermabrasion, which removes some of the top layers of your skin.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories are a type of drug that is used to reduce pain or inflammation. They do this by blocking the production of prostaglandins.

In the United States, NSAIDs are available over the counter without a prescription. These drugs can be found in pharmacies and grocery stores, and they are also sold in combination with other drugs such as aspirin or acetaminophen.

While NSAIDs are available over the counter, some types may require a prescription from a doctor in certain countries before they can be bought.
